My love for nature and all things beautiful took shape at an early age during my frequent visits to my grandparents’ house in Vermont’s beautiful Green Mountains. Long hikes in the woods, cold plunges in the creek and leaf peeping at the start of fall left an indelible mark.

It was during these trips that I first became interested in photography as I watched my grandfather- an amateur photographer, who always had a camera in hand.  Decades later, I still love to rummage through his old slides and continue to be inspired by his work.

Summer days spent on Long Island’s beaches marked my childhood. Then and now, I am deeply drawn to the water. Countless hours beachcombing in search of the perfect shell, driftwood, kelp or seaweed while keeping a sharp eye on the interloping shore birds made for the perfect day.

Moving from the East coast to the Bay Area further strengthened my relationship with nature.  Fortunately, my home is within walking distance to the Bay, the Marin Headlands and the Presidio, which are unmatched venues for what has become my passions- bird watching and nature photography.

I am particularly fascinated by macro photography.  I love getting super close to a subject and getting lost in the minute details unseeable with the naked eye. I enjoy discovering habits and habitats- like watching a bee gather pollen as it rolls itself around the stamen of a California Poppy- or getting a closeup of an inch worm’s face. Yes, worms have faces!

I am fascinated by the infinite wonders of flora and fauna.  For me, getting lost in that world is meditative and brings a sense of connectedness. Most of all I love the quiet solitude and focus of nature photography.  Being connected to and engrossed in nature is a spiritually rich experience- a gift that I get to practice daily.
